What Should I Wear?
Dressing for a photoshoot can significantly enhance the final images. Here are some tips for choosing outfits that will make your photos look stunning, while you are comfortable and feeling like yourself.
General Tips:
• Coordinate, Don’t Match: Instead of identical outfits, choose colours and patterns that complement each other. This creates visual interest and depth in your photos.
• Textures and Layers: Incorporate various textures like lace, wool, or silk to add dimension to your images. Layers are not only practical for changing weather but also add a dynamic element to your photos.
• Comfort is Key: Choose outfits that you feel comfortable and confident in, as discomfort can show in your photos. Ensure the clothes fit well and are appropriate for the photo setting.
❄️ Winter:
• Colours: Opt for bright, bold colours like royal blue, emerald green, and rich reds to stand out against snowy backgrounds. These colours pop beautifully in contrast to the typically neutral tones of winter.
• Fabrics: Thick, textured fabrics like wool, velvet, or heavy knits work well to keep you warm and add interest. Consider chunky scarves, stylish boots, and cozy hats.
Props: Blankets are perfect for sitting poses or wrapping around each other. A brightly coloured or even clear umbrella can also be a playful prop in snowy or slightly rainy weather.
🌷 Spring:
• Colours: Use pastel shades like baby blue, soft pink, light green, or lavender, which mirror the fresh bloom of spring. These colours blend naturally with the vibrant backdrops of blooming flowers and lush landscapes.
• Fabrics: Lighter fabrics such as cotton, linen, and chiffon provide comfort and movement, ideal for breezy spring days.
• Props: Incorporate fresh flowers, a picnic basket, or a vintage bicycle into your shoot to celebrate the season of renewal.
☀️ Summer:
• Colours: Choose natural tones like whites, creams, and tans, or vibrant yellows and ocean blues to reflect the summer sun and skies.
• Fabrics: Opt for breathable fabrics like linen, light cotton, or silk to stay cool. Sundresses, flowy skirts, and open-collared shirts work beautifully.
• Props: Think beach accessories like hats, sunglasses, and beach balls. A colourful beach towel or a fun floatie can add a unique touch to beach or lake photos.
🍁 Fall:
• Colours: Embrace the season’s palette with oranges, reds, deep yellows, and browns. These hues match the natural fall scenery and give a warm, cozy feel to your photos.
• Fabrics: Medium to heavy fabrics like tweed, suede, and knits will complement the autumn chill. Scarves and layered outfits look stylish and functional.
• Props: Use fallen leaves, pumpkins, or a woven basket filled with apples for a quintessentially autumnal feel. Bringing hot chocolate along can also be both a nice way to warm up, and add cozy vibes to your photos. Blankets in fall colours make for great sitting poses or wrapped-around looks.
• Accessories: Incorporate accessories like jewelry, watches, and belts to complete your look. However, avoid overly shiny or flashy items that could distract from the natural beauty in the photos.
• Shoes: Always consider the location when choosing footwear. Stylish yet practical shoes are crucial for outdoor shoots where you might need to walk between spots.
